Most southern towns historically have had one thing in common: A set of railroad tracks often divided them, economically and racially. There often was a spiritual separation too. The subtle but strong message was that one side of town was good and the other bad.
Jesus Christ has never let such artificial barriers stop Him. For Him, there has never been a good or bad side of the tracks -- just people in need of His saving love. Mendenhall, Mississippi, is no exception. Today -- and for the last 35 years -- the Mendenhall Bible Church (MBC) and its outreach arm, The Mendenhall Ministries (TMM), have crossed artificial economic, spiritual, and racial barriers in rural Mississippi with a message of hope rooted in biblical reconciliation and personal responsibility.
Based in Mendenhall, Mississippi, MBC reaches the poor and non-Christians in Jesus' name, while giving many from Mississippi and around the nation a chance to glimpse with God's eye life on the other side of the tracks. It has a three-fold ministry:
MBC responds to the needs of low-income persons in Mendenhall and Simpson County for education through Genesis One Christian School (GOCS). It is an advocate for those who cannot speak up for themselves, mainly abused and neglected children. The Ministry reaches out to the poorest of the poor with low-cost food and clothing through the Thrift Store; and quality housing through its church-based, nationwide network of volunteers.
MBC responds biblically to the needs of Christians in our nation to be reconciled to each other; challenging and encouraging churches to reach across traditional barriers with the love of Jesus Christ to people who may be different from themselves.
MBC responds biblically to the need to rescue the family through training of church leadership and lay persons, Pastors Development Ministry (PDM), encouraging pastors to be involved in holistic ministry.
There are countless ways that you, too, can work near your home to affect similar changes. Furthermore, there is a place for you to work with us in Mendenhall, be it by prayer, volunteering, or financial support.
